Sinovac Vaccine Booster Dose Now Available Upon Request For All Adults Above 18 Years Old

Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin stated that the COVID-19 vaccination booster programme has been extended to include all adults aged 18 years and older. The COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force for Booster (CITF-B) Technical Working Group (TWG) has published a list of recommended homologous and heterologous booster vaccinations for individuals who have completed their COVID-19 immunisation.

Malaysia’s Drug Control Authority has now authorised vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty), Sinovac (CoronaVac), and AstraZeneca for the COVID-19 vaccination booster programme. Appointments for eligible individuals will be made via Mysejahtera, and you may also register for a waiting list at public and private health facilities.

Boosters for Sinovac Recipients

Individuals who have been fully vaccinated with Sinovac are advised to have a booster dose three months following the second dosage, according to the published data. 

The TWG recommends Pfizer for all age groups and AstraZeneca for those above the age of 50. 

Individuals who are unable to receive Pfizer or AstraZeneca as a booster will be offered Sinovac. 

Additionally, the statement states that those who choose to get Sinovac for their third dose may notify their vaccination centre of their request.

Boosters for AstraZeneca Recipients

If you have already had two doses of AstraZeneca vaccinations, TWG continues to suggest AstraZeneca as your third dose six months following the second dose. 

Pfizer is also approved as a booster for those who have received their full vaccinations ffrom AstraZeneca.

Boosters for other vaccine recipients

TWG recommends Pfizer for all age groups and AstraZeneca for individuals aged 50 and over for other vaccinations such as Pfizer, Moderna (Spikevax), CanSino (Covilo), and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen). 

Individuals who received Pfizer, Moderna, or Cansino are advised to have a booster dose six months after their previous dose, whilst Sinopharm recipients are advised to have a booster shot three months after their second shot. 

Meanwhile, individuals who have had Johnson & Johnson vaccinations are advised to take a booster shot two months after their last vaccination.
