With the rapid global vaccination drive, it is to no doubt a known concept that Covid-19 won't be eradicated anytime soon, so we should learn to live with the virus.

Now, Singapore has detected more than 3,000 new daily cases of Covid-19 on 5th October (Tuesday). This had been the highest number since the pandemic began last year.

Here's a breakdown of the origins of the 3,486 new cases:

  • 2,767 cases: In the community
  • 713 cases: Migrant worker dormitories
  • 6 cases: Imported 

Here's the current situation of the individuals who have been infected recently:

  • 1,512 cases: Warded in the hospital
  • 247 cases: Require oxygen supplementation
  • 34 cases: In the intensive care unit (ICU)

According to the last briefing by the Multi-Ministerial Taskforce, Singapore could see Covid-19 cases hit 5,000 a day in 2 weeks, with a huge majority having mild symptoms or asymptomatic.

In the past 28 days, of the 40,396 individuals, 98.3% had no or mild symptoms, 1.4% required oxygen supplementation, 0.1% required ICU care and 0.2% have died. 

The MOH has mentioned that 9 more deaths were also reported on Tuesday, consisting of all elderly Singaporeans or Permanent Residents with 3 of them unvaccinated against Covid-19 while 2 of them have been partially vaccinated. 

In Singapore, a total of 130 individuals have died as a result of complications due to the Covid-19 infection.

As of Singapore's vaccination rate, 83% of its citizens have completed 3 doses (Singapore's full regimen) or received at least 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The remaining 85% of the population have received at least one dose. 

Currently, 321,228 Singaporeans have received their booster shots.
