PM Sabri Launches 10 Year Wellness Plan To Guide Malaysians Towards A Healthy Life

KUALA LUMPUR: The government today unveiled Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS), a long-term strategy to lead the country toward cultivating a culture of healthy living as it navigates through the Covid-19 pandemic.

The agenda, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, would include initiatives to prepare the Malaysian Family as the nation enters the endemic phase.

He said that the Health Ministry will serve as the primary driver of ANMS, with the Housing and Local Government Ministry participating directly and other ministries cooperating.

“ANMS is aimed at making healthy living and sustainable environment a culture, which supports the health wellbeing of the Malaysian Family.

“In making ANMS a success, the government is taking the Whole of Nation approach by forging close cooperation with all quarters as strategic partners," he announced in a pre-recorded speech to launch ANMS, aired on the Selamat Pagi Malaysia program on TV1 today.

Ismail Sabri also expressed gratitude to Malaysians for their patience in carrying out their various duties in rehabilitating the nation that was devastated by Covid-19 in the real spirit of (Keluarga Malaysia) Malaysian Family.

He said that the government was responsible for developing the ANMS strategies and initiatives, while the business sector and non-governmental organisations (NGO) would spearhead the endeavour.

He said that the Malaysian Family will be directly engaged in all endeavours.

He said that ANMS will be implemented over a period of ten years beginning this year, with four initiatives: promoting healthy living awareness, enhancing health services, empowering personal health, and improving environmental cleanliness.

He said that the government would ensure enough funding to ensure ANMS’s success and that the projects would benefit the Malaysian Family.

“I would like to stress that ANMS belongs to the Malaysian Family and for the wellbeing of the Malaysian Family."

Additionally, he expressed optimism that the public would support and expand their collaboration in order to ensure the success of ANMS.

According to Ismail Sabri, ANMS was also highlighted in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), particularly in terms of improving healthcare delivery.

Among the initiatives relating to health wellness that would be adopted in the 12MP were increasing Malaysians’ health literacy and understanding about their health.

He said that the government was developing a National Health Literacy Policy, which would see healthcare awareness programmes implemented across several platforms and at all levels via the optimization of facilities at its agencies.

He said that community health agents, or MyCHAMPIONs, would carry out a development programme aimed at increasing people’s health literacy, particularly in the area of wellness education and promotion.

“With a high level of health literacy, the Malaysian Family will get health information, make healthy living a culture, conduct personal health monitoring as preventive steps against illnesses and take care of their health to avoid complications.

“The Malaysian Family will also be able to benefit from health services in making health-related decisions and practise a healthy lifestyle, and at the same time maintain good health," he said.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who appeared on the morning television slot, said that the ministry, as the primary driver of ANMS, cannot operate in isolation and requires collaboration from all stakeholders, including government agencies, in order to carry out the programmes.

He said that many national indexes, as well as the seven indicators, will be utilised to assess the programmes’ efficacy.

These include health literacy, health lifestyle culture, disease prevalence, forming new norms and SOP compliance as a cultural norm; vaccination, quality of life, and national cleanliness level.
