Malaysia Has To Reopen Safely Says Khairy

Malaysia is not yet out of the woods in the COVID-19 fight, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said yesterday, reminding the public to continue complying with the authorities’ standard operating procedures.

Khairy said Malaysia is still experiencing difficulties despite the COVID-19 crisis improving and everyday cases showing a steady decline.

Malaysia’s new COVID-19 cases fell below 5,000 yesterday, and 4,885 cases were recorded today.

“We know that this is a particularly stubborn virus, it’s not going anywhere but we have to continue to move forward, reopening safely but at the same time ensuring that our public health care system is not crippled or paralysed," he said.

Khairy urged people who had already received appointments for a booster dose to attend them, particularly those over the age of 40 and those with comorbidities.

“Whatever that is offered, take it. It will not only help you in terms of ensuring better coverage but also help other people by bringing down the transmission risk," he said.
