Government Preparing For Fourth Covid Wave

The government is prepared to deal with the possibility of a fourth wave of COVID-19 infection in the country in the wake of last Saturday's Melaka state election.

Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Deputy Health Minister II, said the effects of the COVID-19 virus might be evident after 10 to 14 days.

“We are monitoring the situation. The government is aware and is ready to face the possibility of the fourth wave happening in the country," he said at today's Dewan Rakyat question-and-answer session.

He was replying to an additional question from Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen (PH-Bandar Kuching) on the government's preparedness to deal with the possibility of a spike in COVID-19 cases in Melaka after last Saturday's state election, given that the effect would take 10 to 14 days to manifest.

Aaron said that, as a result of the Sabah election last year, a highly tight standard operating procedure (SOP) was established for the Melaka state election, which prohibited large-scale campaigning.

He said that stringent SOPs will be implemented for the next Sarawak state election in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.
