Children Under 12 To Receive Pfizer Covid Vaccination Next Year

It has been announced that the Ministry of Health (MOH) will begin administering the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination to children under the age of 12 in 2022.

According to the Ministry of Health, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is now approved for use in children under the age of 12, and is seeking clearance from the European Union and the United States.

“Pfizer is also expected to submit data related to the vaccine registration for use in children below 12 by the end of this year to the NPRA (National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency) for evaluation and approval,” the ministry said in a written response released today on the Parliament website.

The ministry was replying to a query from Wong Chen (PH-Subang), who inquired if the MOH intended to vaccinate children aged five to twelve years against COVID-19 and the duration of its implementation.

According to the ministry, the government is now acquiring the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine for the group, which has a different formulation than those used in the adult population, subject to NPRA and the Drug Control Authority clearances.

“A total of 5.9 million children are expected to be inoculated against COVID-19 involving an estimated 11.8 million doses of vaccine,” said the ministry.
