Drink Like The Champ
At the age of 44, Tom Brady is still one of the leading quarterbacks in the NFL. The former New England Patriots QB has a strict diet whereby he restricts dairy, sugar, refined carbs, processed meat, inorganic foods, and certain fruits and vegetables.
Brady swears by one key meal: his morning smoothie. Dieticians agree that it is a great recipe for anyone looking for a healthy breakfast. According to this social media, his secret recipe includes:
- 5 ounces of almond milk
- 5 ounces of hemp milk
- 1/2 cup of frozen bananas
- 1/4 cup of walnuts
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 1 teaspoon of chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon of almond butter
- 1 scoop of whey protein powder
Alix Turoff, a dietician in the US, argues that Brady’s smoothie has “all the nutrients and enough calories to be a healthy, balanced meal on its own – with protein from the whey protein, carbs from the banana and blueberries, and fat from the nuts".
The smoothie contains 34 grams of protein, and it’s dairy-free
The NFL Champ avoids dairy, he has expressed concern that dairy, which may cause inflammation, would increase his risk of injury. However, since studies are mixed on the impact of dairy on inflammation, his fears are overblown.
If you’re wanting to build muscle like the champs, protein is key for energy and muscle growth. Whey protein can be helpful for people who cannot get sufficient protein from their normal meals, due to health conditions or other factors.
The chia seeds and blueberries are rich in nutrients Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that help hydrate skin, while blueberries are high in antioxidants and contain zinc, an anti-inflammatory.

The healthy fats come from almond milk and almond butter. In addition to healthy fats, they also bring vitamins A, D, and E, and calcium. Almond butter helps keep you fuller for longer due to its fiber and protein.
Due to the high content of protein in the almond butter and seeds, you do not have to add the whey protein, although, if you’re bulking up, that’s the way to go!
